Helen Keller Statue added to the National Statuary Hall

The National Statuary Hall Collection in the United States Capitol is comprised of statues donated by individual states to honor persons notable in their history. The entire collection now consists of 98 statues contributed by 50 states. Forty-eight states have contributed two statues each.

Helen Keller Statue Replica welcomed to State Capitol

MONTGOMERY - A replica of the Helen Keller statue that is in the U.S. Capitol will be welcomed to the State Capitol during a ceremony on Friday, December 4 at 2:30 p.m.

In October, Governor Bob Riley and congressional leaders unveiled the statue of Helen Keller in the U.S. Capitol rotunda. Now, a replica of that statue will be on display in the Old Supreme Court Library at the State Capitol.

Speaking at Friday’s ceremony will be Governor Riley, Al Head, executive director of the Alabama Arts Council, and Helen Keller descendant Keller Johnson-Thompson.

After a brief stay at the State Capitol, the statue replica will be on display at museums throughout Alabama before coming back to the State Capitol where it will be on permanent display.
